People in Indonesia hate to see other peole upset, so when you are lost they will usually do their best to give you directions. Unfortunately, half the time they don't actually know the way, but that doesn't stop them from trying! Of course everyone on the sidelines will join in with their advice, until you half a kampong giving you conflicting advice on how to get where you want.
In contrast, taxis usually know how to get you where you want. but often enjoy pretending they don't - while the meter ticks up and the cost of your journey mounts!

| End of the road | Akhir jalan |
| The start of the road | Awal jalan |
| Next to | Di sebelah |
| Opposite | Di seberang |
| Behind | Di belakang |
| On the side of the road (although literally means in front of the road) | Didepan jalan |
| On the crossroads | Di perempatan / persimpangan |
| At the end of the road | Di akhir jalan |
| On the corner | Di ujung jalan |
