Obviously, a very easy place (in cites) to meet girls is in clubs. You are more likely to meet prostitutes here, although at the same time not everyone you meet is a prostitute. (I met a girl in a club once who took me to church with her the next day - she was concerned for my soul!)
Stay for a while in a city, and you will learn where to meet different types of girls. When I lived in Surabaya we knew that many of the girls at one bar were prostitutes - at other bars the clientele were mostly students.
There are other places to meet girls, though, especially if you speak some rudimentary Indonesian (which should be easy with our handy phrasebook.
I used to love shops - trundling round the malls and practising my Indonesian with different girls. One friend, although not really looking to meet anyone, met his girlfriend at a gym - she used to drive him home afterwards in her sports car. Others met through work.
Universities are fantastic places to meet people (both male and female). As my wife explained to me after I met her, in contrast to many poorer people, students are not generally out to make a fast buck. Instead, they are more likely to be interested in making (real!) friends, having fun and, of course, learning English.
I was introduced to my wife (a student at the time!) at a party. I say introduced - I asked to be introduced. I saw my wife looking very cute in a corner, and asked an Indonesian friend (the girlfriend of a mate) to introduce us. (She wasn’t very interested to start with!)
Incidentally, the same girl who was resonsible for me meeting my wife is now married to my friend and living not far from us in the UK. We meet up when we can, us men having a beer, the girls talking and the children playing together!
