You never have to cook in Indonesia - food, cooked and uncooked, is everywhere. I remember sitting at my girlfriend's kos (boarding house), complaining I was hungry. The girls would glance at the clock and say - wait a minute, the Nasi Goreng/Mie Goreng/Bakso/Es Campur e.t.c. man will be along in a minute. Sure enough, a few minutes later we would hear a tock-tock, and the girls would rush out to buy the food from a hand-pushed cart. Cooked food would be prepared on a gas ring, and the man would wait until the girls finished to reclaim his dishes.
